Micajah Sturdivant
President, MMI Hotel Group

Micajah Sturdivant leads MMI Hotel Group, a 65-year old owner and operator of hotels and restaurants across the Southeast, from their corporate office in Jackson, MS. Rooted in southern hospitality, MMI has strategically expanded its portfolio from the early days of working alongside Kemmons Wilson to franchising and developing a wide range of product types – even formalizing its full-service experience with the creation of a dedicated dining division more than twenty-five years ago in response to fellow hotel operators’ lack of interest or return in F&B operations.
While Micajah is the third-generation to lead MMI, he did not grow up in the hospitality business. Instead, his roots are in the Mississippi Delta where he was raised on the family’s farm. With agricultural, hospitality and banking ties to Memphis, Micajah Sturdivant enjoys any opportunity to get back to the MidSouth.
In May 2021, MMI along with LPI Properties of Memphis developed and opened The Memphian, a Tribute Portfolio property in Overton Square. This venture not only provides an opportunity for Micajah and his MMI team to be in Memphis regularly, but also demonstrate the wide range of experiences this legacy hotel operator can execute.
2021 marks fifteen years with MMI after completing his MBA at Harvard Business School and taking on various responsibilities within the MMI organization. Today, Micajah lives in Jackson with his bride and three little girls. Outside of ballet, piano, and braiding hair, Micajah currently serves on the MS Symphony Opera Foundation and Eudora Welty Foundation boards. His industry service ranges from IHG’s Global Owners Association Board of Directors to AH&LA’s Management Committee.
